A Warm Sunday in December

Today was a special, exceptionally warm Sunday for the time of the year. 70 degrees! It’s a little unusual for Delaware to be this warm in the middle of December, and I’m sure it put smiles on the faces of the global warming crowd, but it reminds me of a time when I was younger. I remember a December day in 1998 where it hit about 75 degrees, and I put on shorts and a T-shirt to go outside and string all the Christmas lights on my dad’s house. So, a little abnormal, yes, but not in such a way that an appeal to climate change is required. Northern Delaware can go either way this time of year, and it’s usually pretty cold by now, but warm spells are possible.

Today was also special because of our Christmas cantata at church! Our music pastor shared a photo of the choir, and it’s the featured image at the top of this post. Jocelyn and I attend Lighthouse Baptist Church these days, and we just finished our very gospel-centered Christmas program. (Jocelyn is not in the choir, but I am.) The music was exceptional, and it is so much fun to be part of such a professional-sounding and dignified church choir! My fellow choir members all act like we’re in a paid, professional group, but none of us receives a dime, and we do all that we do for Christ. If you want to listen to the cantata, it is available now on Lighthouse Baptist’s YouTube channel. I hope somebody in attendance this morning heard the message in the songs and received Christ as Savior.

FSB Percussion

Percussionists at the First State Band concert, 2015

Most importantly, this day was special because of our baby boy, Matthew. Naturally he’s been having a lot of firsts lately since he has only lived on this planet a couple months now. But today he attended his first Christmas program at church, and he did so without making a sound through the whole thing! He’s such a good baby. On Friday night, he attended his first band concert as well, the First State Symphonic Band’s annual Christmas Concert held at Faith Baptist Church. We were really close to the percussion section, and it was extremely loud! But he didn’t seem to mind one bit!

We hope everyone is having a very Merry Christmas season! Thank you for checking out our family blog. We’ll try to keep these brief as it’s very easy to get long-winded. (Hey, if you want long-winded, check out the Theology section!) We hope to keep up with blogging from time to time, but forgive us if we lapse! That’s easy to do too.
